My papertoy hobby began with a Father's Day gift for my dad. He likes to tell a story about asking for a Corvette for Christmas and getting a box of Ivory soap with a toy Corvette on top. So I made a simple paper box, decorated it with a vintage Ivory soap label, and found a papercraft car online to make and put inside along with a gift card. It was a big hit! I have been making papercraft for people's birthdays and other occasions to give them along with their gift. For Christmas this year, my family decided to make each other gifts instead of buying presents and one of the gifts I made everyone was papertoys from Chris Bonnette at Macula
Here are the finished toys
I didn't make all the accessories due to a lack of time and I changed the flowers on the Catrina but they are all available at his site.
I have personally designed the Ivory Soap box, a replica of my truck, and a Webber grill. My current project is to create a Ryuk from Death Note for a friend since I could not find one online.
UPDATE: I made a Ryuk today using the blank Squealer template from Chris Bonnette
. I drew and hand-colored the skin and scanned it into my computer. Here it is:
My eight-year-old daughter says it looks like "One of those guys from KISS" haha! Oh well. She made this today:
His name is Death Wish a.k.a. Dark Gaia and was made from the same blank template
