Nice Paper Toys

The Papertoy Network!

The latest original design is RUSTEE1. RUSTEE1 is inspired by a traffic poll near my work. I thought the textures created by the distressed stickers and metal were pretty awesome so I went down with my camera and took some close up pics. I then manipulated those in Photoshop.

The other original I released this week is named Finley:

He is kind of a jerk. If you see him tell him I want my $10 back.

You can download Finley here.

@Mr.WalkieTakie: Absolutely. I am planning on doing some non-cubee customs soon. I have had a bit of an artistic identity crisis over the last couple years. I am always impressed with other artists who have such a signature visual style/process where you can just tell it is them by looking at it and I don't fell like I have had something like that since school as most of the work I have done since has been adapting other styles. At this point I think I am less worried about having a style and just experimenting. I have some new templates hanging around my desk - not sure what I want to do about them yet.

I have been doing some hand drawn stuff at the monthly Drink & Draws held here in NY so I might post them when I get enough.

Thanks all!

@ Marshall: Funny you mention that, I have a cubee stencil I have been using to various degrees of success - you have to be familiar with where the slots are since they are not indicated but most of the spots you would fold are easy to spot. Pieces of packaging, misc other materials... I got this "furry" plastic that should be interesting when it's finished. I'll start rolling them out on my blog soon.

I am also into the idea of adapting the finished shape to other materials (solid wood for instance). In the past I thought this might have been a bad idea since a big reason for cubees being the shape they are was a result of my intention to make it glueless and modular - that if they weren't folded together there wouldn't be much point, but I'm reconsidering just to see where the idea could go.
