First Paper Toy Attempt - Bookwormatron

Hello all at Nice Paper Toys,

Just wanted to share my first paper toy creation - a little robot reading a book. As I'm sure some paper toy fans will see, I'm heavily influenced by the work of Loulou and Tummie - but wanted to design something that can sit on a desk at work or decorate a shelf with its little legs dangling over.

I've had to work with very basic tools to create this toy - namely powerpoint! Hence there's no instructions on the template, in fact the 'mouth' or 'jaw' section is a bit confusing as I've had to 'pile' shapes to achieve the design I was going for - hopefully you'll be able to work it out though!

There's a blank template included too if anyone is interested!

I've designed a couple of other robots for friends - they have slightly different head designs and carry different objects (like a fishing rod!) I'll upload these in due course.

Please let me know what you think!

Thanks,

Joe

Hi everyone,

I've added the box net app to my profile and added the files there - hopefully you'll be able to access them. I'll also upload them to the template depot group (thanks paper vinny!)

Alexander - your use of powerpoint looks fantastic and MUCH more advanced than mine. Very inspiring! Are you using other programs to design/draw and then importing into powerpoint? Or all in that program? Your screen shot just looks so detailed (would love to see that toy btw!!)

Cheers all, and do let me know if you make bookwormatron...

I can't really say so much about other programs as I have none, I only use power point(although I'm learning Photoshop). As for power point you can create surprisingly detailed and dynamic designs using it with enough practice. I'd recommend always converting final power point toys to a PDF however. Bellow is a screen shot of one of my latest projects to try and show some of the stuff you can do with ppt.

Hi Alexander,

Yep - I designed this toy on powerpoint. I've found it is surprisingly versatile if you stick at it - although I would like to learn how to use other programs (people have mentioned gimp is excellent). Let me know if you have any advice on designing, I'd be really interested.

Cheers,

Joe

From the comments left below am I right in assuming you designed this on powerpoint? I hope so, that's how I do it and it'd be nice to know more people use it as a design tool.

Hi both,

Thank you so much for your encouraging comments - I really, really appreciate it! I will be uploading my design asap this evening once I'm home from work.

Cheers again for your kind words,
