There is an excellent series of books by Pepin Press that are just packed with package and display templates. The books even come with a cd-rom of the vector templates so you can use them yourself. The three I have are "Folding patterns for Display and Publicity", "Structural Package Design" and "Special packaging". The stuff in there can be very inspirational.

Years ago I did this matchbox package that looked like a fire track and even had an extending ladder. The matchbox tray slid out the back of the truck.

I really like the idea of practical papercraft. Toys and stuff are cool but I think the value of functionality really hits a home run for this stuff.

Thanks. I really like to design stuff that has an additional use (like the BC Butler) as i learn a lot during the process. For this eTUI i had to change the open/close mechanism three times as i was not satisfied about the usability/durability/visual appearance. Some of the ideas i have to "throw away" lead me to other design ideas.
I got a few ideas of textures for the sheath and will create 3-5 before i release it. Then I'll release the blank template as well in 3-4 standard business card sizes. More info about the process is posted in my blog.
