I've really enjoyed Marshall Alexander's Foldskool model, and had to throw my spin on it. I went back to really Old School with a grisly, bizarre poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge by the name of "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner." You can find the poem pretty easily with a Google search, and keep a look out for the superb artwork by Gustave Dore. I didn't do any of the usual vector based art--an NPT member showed me the way to work with a digital pen/tablet--the Bamboo Fun by Wacom.
