National Doodle Day: 11 February 2011 – Super cool custom toys for a charitable donation!

Hey guys! My introduction to the world of paper toys came towards the end of last year when I was doing some work for an event called National Doodle Day – an event run by the UK charity I work for, Epilepsy Action. I enlisted the help of two very talented paper toy designers – Alexander Gwynne and Jenni Bryan (of creaturekebab) – who designed a small range of three official National Doodle Day toys.

National Doodle Day 2011 is on Friday and I just wanted to give you all a shout to point out that these toys will not be available for much longer. You will need to make a donation to get hold of them; I appreciate that this is not usual for paper toys, but it's in a great cause!

Alex Gwynne kindly donated two toys for National Doodle Day – Stacketen (the stackable skeleton) and Globehead (who is kind of self-explanatory). Meanwhile, Jenni has designed Yu-Kii – one of her inimitable creature creations. Both Stacketen and Yu-Kii are customisable – so you can create your own versions of these toys and submit photos of them for a special online gallery. All kinds of fun!

For more information, visit nationaldoodleday.org.uk and follow the link saying 'paper toys'.

UK toy enthusiasts can simply follow the online instructions – texting their choice of toy to the doodle day number (at a cost of £1.50). They will then receive a reply containing a secret web link where they can download their chosen critter.

International people, your mission is a little more complex. You will need to visit shop.epilepsy.org.uk/donate and make a donation of £1.50. In the text field, please point out that your donation is for a toy and specify which toy you'd like. Shortly thereafter, you will receive an email with the aforementioned secret web address for your chosen toy.

And then the fun begins!

I hope you guys all appreciate that this is for charity and will get onboard with it – let's get some cool customised toys going and populate an online gallery with our creations!
