I don't see any mention of electronic cutters or templates for electronic cutters on paper toy sites.
I'm thinking of the Cricut, Silhouette SD, Wishblade, eCraft, and several others. I would think the digital cutters would give excellent cutting and simplify building toys.
Personally, I have a Cricut (it's my wife's but I use it) and I've been turning templates into files that can be cut by the machine. The results aren't super accurate because the Cricut has no way to detect where it is on the paper. The Silhouette and Wishblade have sensors to read calibration lines on paper and cut accurately.
Here's the NPT mascot I made with the Cricut: nicepapertoy.jpg
