Made this for a fundraiser event at my college.
If you're from Bina Nusantara college, come see the third DKV expo! I sold a lot of these during the first and the second expo. Thanks a lot, if you did visited me and bought some of these.
The theme is to make merchandises with Indonesian culture, and I decided to implement the theme on my kobico. Aside of the fund raising event, at the same time I also want to jump in the bandwagon with Salazad to spread the folklore of my countries.
Now shall be the part where I introduce these cuties.
On the top stage is
Timun Mas (Golden Cucumber) and
Buto Ijo (Green Ogre).
Their story can be viewed
here.
From left to right: Si Pitung, Barong, Loro Jonggrang, Rangda, & Gatot Kaca.
You might have heard about
Barong &
Gatot Kaca from Salazad's post about his toys (which are amazing and my personal favorite)
Rangda is the enemy of Barong in Balinese mythology, perhaps you'd known her other name, Leak. (
Lay-ack)
And there's
Loro Jonggrang who's part of the
Prambanan Temple folklore.
The story of
Si Pitung himself is similar to the more well-known Robin Hood, but instead of equipped with Bows and Arrows, he fights with his martial arts and a dagger. He mugs the rich men and shares his loots with the poor.
I was so happy because I had the opportunity to introduce the people with these toys. Especially since the expo visitors are those new freshmen who was going to enter my college. Most of them have no idea cute and lovely things are easily made out of a sheet of paper.
I'm still contemplating whether I'm going to put this up on the site for free or not. I'd feel bad with my juniors who had paid for these; but then again, the final assignment for the first semester was to made these kind of toys, so you can pretty much says they are spending IDR 10,000.00 (a dollar) for fun, knowledge, and a reference for the upcoming assignment :3
