first off, these are my original designs. the SPIKY is shin's of course, but the design and illustrator work are my own. the practice of customizing a toy in the paper world is common, and i have done quite a few. you may find them here.

I've also had people customize my toys, which i find to be a huge compliment and just as satisfying as designing them myself. Maybe you should check them out, you might find one or two that you like.
