Nice Paper Toys

Hi, I've come out of lurking to ask you very artistic people a question... I love collecting paper toys/crafts almost as much as I love building them....

My question is about those of you who collect too; how do you sort? I've run into a sorta catch 22, when you have a papertoy that is a speakerdog, but is skinned by say horrorwood... would you put that in a Ben the illistrator folder or a Horrorwood folder? and what about when a paper toy is skinned by two differnt artists??? (and I definatly don't want 3+ copies on my computer that would take unnessasary space)

I know this is a very WTF Random question of the day, but it's been bugging me, any help you can provide would be awesome!!!

Thanks <3
Jessi

well there goes my suggestion
If you check my site http://www.thedaydreamkid.com/ and go to the collection link at the top you can see how I digitally sort my collection.

I give template designer first credit and then skin designer second credit.

The reason I do this is most blanks that are customized are part of a series by the template designer. So personally I want to keep the series whole instead of splitting it up into just the designers.

On my computer I have thousands of designs so sorting them can be tricky but easy once you do it.

Main Folder: Template Designer
SubFolder: Series & #
File: Name of design and name of artist.

Example: Horrorwood>Calling All Cars Series #2> Ron Deere (TDDK)
Horrorwood>Calling All Cars Series #2> Carro Loco (Machintoy)
Horrorwood>Calling All Cars Series #2> Rad Rodney (Macula)
Horrorwood>Calling All Cars Series #2> Sea Critter (Matthew Gilpin)
Horrorwood>Calling All Cars Series #2> Calling All Squids (Collin David)

Now if it is not part of a series you can obviously just lose the subfolder and have

Example: Horrorwood>A Bad Dream on Birch Street

Makes it easy for me to find the template later if some requests it (I'm a template hoarder) or just find for myself if I want to make it again for someone personally.

I also keep 4 Main folders myself:

Completed Paper Toys (Pictures of completed toys)
Printed Toys (Toys I have printed so I dont print them a second time accidentally)
Paper Toys (Where the unprinted rest)
Blanks (folder of blank templates)

I think this should help you get organizing.
Yo Jessi,

I'm a collector/builder (sometimes customizer) too and I don't sort (Like most artists I'm a mess) if I want to find a toy or template I usually go to "My Photos" on NPT:
http://www.nicepapertoys.com/photo/photo/listForContributor?screenN...
Most photo's come with a link and if not, I gotta try and find it on the net or on my comp.
And that's a lotta fun coz I come across toys I already forgot about or didn't know I had.
But if ya want to get organized, I'd run with TDDK's system. He's my "brother in crime" and
we both do it our way.

Grtz and may the P be with you! Meth.
TDDK, you ROCK my friend!!!

I'm going to get started implamenting your system, Thank you!

PAPER TOY HORDERS UNITE!!! (laughs)

Much <3

Ps. Thanks Meth for making me smile!!!!!
A toy/smile a day, keeps the doctor away!!!
Not a problem. It has certainly kept everything in line for me. Hope it works for you as well.
Inside my Urban Paper Toy folder, I list them by Artist name & most prolific toy.

For example:

JohnnyChiba_Headnoddaz (the latter helps me remember what the design is)
MatthewAlexander_Foldskool
Castleforte_NicePaperToys

If there are blanks and custom color or designs by other artists, The original
blank goes in the creators folder. With a sub-folder labeled :

Shin>
.>Gritty
.>Hoofy
...Hoofy_blank.pdf
...>Hoofy Customs

HorrorWood
>CallingAllCars
>Wave1
>Wave2

Harlancore_Bopunx
>BoxPunx Collections
>Series 8:Analog_Abominations
>FanSeries
>UncannyXmen
