Nice Paper Toys

The paper toy network

I've noticed lately that some people that offer stuff for free online (e.g. papertoys) have a 'PayPal donation' button on their site. Anyone here have any experience with that, does it actually generate some cash?

I was wondering, for example, if it could be an ethically correct way to generate funding for special projects like models printed on thick cardboard with die-cuts or stuff like that.

On a similar note, does anyone have experience with Google AdSense as well. And what do you think when I would place ads on my site?

'paypal donation' : me my self get some cash from the button. but not that much, and mostly they donate for my Fonts.

'adsense' : it generate some money. depends on your google page ranks, visitors and click...

I am looking into it as well as my bandwidth usage has been pretty redic to say the least.

I have been able to keep things going though a combination of commissions, adsense and working out some hosting deals.

As far as ads go I think as long as they don't pop up, make noise or otherwise annoy the hell out of the user they are fine and understandable... that said some people tend to think they look unprofessional on portfolio sites etc and I would tend to agree.

Adsense can be tricky. eCPM (the amount of money you earn by thousands of views) can change very dramatically day to day. Like Eric said it can depend on a lot of things and you can't really outright encourage people to click on your ads (it's against the rules).

I may give Paypal a try in the future, but I don't think I would rely on it or anything given what Eric and others have said elsewhere.

I put a PayPal donation button on my page a time ago, but i never got a cent from it.
It's more like an experiment, :)
I use PayPal button for selling some of mine papertoys as well. I sold only few, but it made me happy anyway.
I also opened a Google AdSense account, but i never used it, i can't see my page with it (at the moment), but if http://www.takashimurakami.com/ did it, why not?

I too have a paypal donation button, which I saw on another artist's site, and I thought, hey what a cool simple idea. Leave it up to the visitor to decide. And yes, it has generated a few dollars, but not too much. I think it's worth doing for anyone who offers something for free and "tactile" on their site. I mean it's inoffensive, and totally based on choice. Usually someone also sends me a little email letting me know how much they enjoy what they do. That's always nice. ^^

Google adsense? no idea. The word "ad" scares me. hehe
