Okay, so I know how to make a cylinder - pi (3.14) x radius gives you the circumference of the circle and therby the length of the rectangular part of the template.
But how do you make a tapered cylinder (or a segmented cone)?
Is it a segment of a circle? Is there a particular angle or formula to use?
For a cone, I assume you'd only need to know how to make one side...

I dont know if there is a maths formulafor what you are looking for but, I did find this on google:
'The length is the square root of the sum of the squares of the radius and height. That is, Length=Square root of(Radius square + Height square)'
Not sure if its correct for what you need,
I recently finished a cone shape with 3 parts to it, I tried several ways, mainly rolling pieces of paper into different cone shapes and fitting them together then marking and cutting them to size, Unfortunatly this wasn't as easy as it sounds, So I just ended up learning the basics in Blender, Im happy with the final shape, Now I just need to find the time to finish the other parts!
Good Luck with your cone shape
Permalink Reply by Shadree on March 21, 2011 at 6:35pm That sounds like the Pythagorus theorum and it's for finding the length of a side of a traingle....
My problem is knowing what angle/curve to use.

first is maths equasions
second is how to build one out of paper:
